One thing I learned while building a Three.js product configurator: the model is rarely the hardest part. The real challenge is making customization feel instant without turning the page into a GPU benchmark.
For this sofa configurator, I kept the scene focused and moved the complexity into reusable material slots. Fabric and wood finishes update at runtime, the camera remains predictable, lighting stays neutral enough that colors do not lie, and the interface never competes with the product.
The next improvements I would make are device-aware texture compression, progressive asset loading, and a small analytics layer to learn which combinations people actually explore.
If you are building a configurator, where do users struggle most: choosing materials, understanding scale, or trusting that the final product will match what they see?
