The n8n vs. Make debate is pointless.
Every week, someone asks which tool is better. And every week, people defend their favorite like it's a sports team.
I use both.
Make is where I start when a client needs something live fast. CRM sync, webhooks, lead notifications. The UI is clean, clients can actually read the workflow.
n8n is where I go when things get complex. Self-hosted, no execution limits, full data control. A firm needed a document processing pipeline — would've cost $200/month or so on Make. On self-hosted n8n: under $10.
The real skill isn't picking a tool. It's knowing which one fits the problem.
Stop asking which is better. Start asking what the job needs.

Looking at the job board, it seems like 90%+ of listings are design, video editing, and social media roles. Has anyone here found success landing automation, AI, or backend development projects on Contra? Or is the platform primarily design-focused?

Currently building an iOS app called Makely — a project organizer for turning video inspiration into actionable plans.
The core idea:
You find a renovation or DIY video (even without a proper description), share it to Makely, and the app uses AI to break it down into:
• materials (with estimated cost)
• tools required
• step-by-step phases
So instead of just saving content, you can actually execute the project.
Design-wise, I’m exploring a more playful, character-driven system combined with bold colors and simple UI flows — aiming to make something that feels approachable but still structured and useful.
Would love feedback from designers on:
• overall visual direction (too playful vs. balanced?)
• clarity of onboarding flow
• how the illustrations work within a product UI
Trying to refine this before App Store launch.
