How good of a web designer is AI?
I put Claude Design to the test asking it to redesign my client's product inventory page I built in Framer. In under 10min it produced 2 variations. Neither can go on client's website directly but it surfaced two years' worth of overlooked improvements I can implement manually.
The gap between AI output and production-ready website is there, but in the hands of a web designer who knows what to do with the output, it has a valuable place in the workflow.

This is exactly how I've been thinking about AI in my own workflow it's not a replacement, it's a pressure test. The fact that it surfaced 2 years of overlooked improvements in 10 minutes says more about how we naturally stop questioning our own decisions over time. The...

Feels like AI isn’t replacing the designer, it’s just speeding up the "thinking layer". Like you said, it surfaces things we somehow miss for months. Still needs a human eye to make it actually usable, but as a brainstorming partner, it’s kind of crazy good.

Jeah, I was wondering if it does a really good job at design, build, content and can also launch it, how long until it can do a proper website autonomously, but it's a stretch. We might sooner get to a point where AI Agents make websites obsolete.
Pradyumn's avatar
Yeah, honestly that might happen before fully autonomous “perfect” websites do. Feels like we’re moving toward more dynamic AI-generated experiences instead of traditional static websites.
Kristine's avatar
Totally. About that, next to every AI advancement there are all these "we are so cooked" posts. Honestly, has it ever scared you that AI will take your job?

The framing is right. AI surfaces the audit, the designer ships the system. The output is a starting argument, not a final layout. Production-ready means information hierarchy, edge cases, and motion intent, none of which Claude Design owns yet.

Is there anything in your workflow that AI can take care of in an autonomous way?
Sharon's avatar
The 'gap' you mentioned is where the professional value lies. AI provides the raw inspiration, but the human designer provides the curation and technical feasibility. Using it to audit overlooked improvements is a brilliant way to leverage the tech without compromising on the final craft.

To me, this is a perfect example of how to use AI the right way. It’s not a replacement, you didn’t just blindly say, “give me a website.” YOU designed, YOU planned, and YOU built the site yourself. The AI simply followed your direction and provided a working concept, using your assets and designs.
Kristine's avatar
Exactly. Have you tried Claude Design? Any other AI tools that has made it into your workflow?
Jonathan's avatar
For now, only image generation for stock image like assets.

This is wild! Honestly, as someone just literally starting out, I’ve been wondering if it’s still worth grinding the fundamentals from scratch or if the 'real' skill is just learning how to prompt AI like this? 👀
Kristine's avatar
Having foundational design/coding skills gives you an advantage of knowing the underlying details of what you want to create so you can give AI more precise directions (prompts) therefore get way better results (output) however it's not a requirement anymore, thats for sure. AI...

Human feedback is key. AI gets 85% of the way, the rest is for us to show why we are great

This hits so close to home. As someone who lives and breathes digital strategy, this is exactly the conversation we need to be having. AI isn't replacing the expert it's exposing just how irreplaceable the expert truly is. The magic isn't in what AI produces. It's in the...

There's a huge gap between done and ready-to-ship product. The only difference I noticed that earlier I used to manually draw the wireframes and now I leverage AI to perform that task.
Designers still need to add the deep thinking, careful testing, and visual polish that turn a basic idea into a high-quality product.

Ai is only helping us do task more fast its not replacing us
