Metamorphosis. This is a short animated film about the magic of transformation. The story centres on a girl whose bouquet of peonies miraculously transforms into a swarm of living butterflies. Visually, the film is rendered in a 2D animation style inspired by Studio Ghibli, with an emphasis on soft pastel tones and dynamic camerawork, and aims to evoke emotion. Script planning: Creating a text-based script directly on the canvas, where I mapped out the emotional arc—from curiosity to delight. Visual Anchor (Style Anchor): Establishing a consistent style (2D flat cartoon) so that all frames look like parts of a single cartoon. Keyframe Generation: Creating ‘hero’ still images for each scene, which allowed me to lock down the character’s appearance and lighting. Animation (Image-to-Video): Using Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1 models to transform static images into video with smooth camera movements (dolly out, tracking shot). My experience with Melius has been very positive. The most convenient thing was that the entire process — from concept to final render — takes place in a single space. Canvas allows me to be a ‘director’ who sees the entire storyboard at a glance, rather than just sifting through files in folders. The ability to instantly update the style across the entire sequence of frames is pure magic. A huge thank you to the team for giving me the chance to try out the platform and for the free credits!
