And this is where I believe people from an IT or technology background have a major opportunity. 💡

Many procurement professionals have strong knowledge of:
📦 Purchasing 🤝 Vendor Management 💰 Negotiation 📊 Cost Management 🔄 Supply Chain Processes
But when it comes to:
📈 Data Analytics 🤖 Automation 💻 ERP Systems 🧠 AI 📊 Dashboards & Reporting ⚙️ Process Optimization
— there is still a significant gap.
And that gap is an opportunity. 🚀
💻 Why an IT Background Can Be a Superpower in Procurement
Coming from an IT background gives you a different way of looking at procurement.
Instead of asking:

You can also ask:

Coming from an IT background and moving into Procurement, I've personally seen how these two worlds can complement each other.
Technology teaches you to think in terms of systems, processes and data.
Procurement teaches you to think about suppliers, costs, negotiations, risk and business value.
Put them together, and you get a skill set that can be extremely valuable in today's business environment. 🔥
🚀 So, Is Procurement Still a Good Career Choice?
Absolutely.
But I wouldn't recommend learning Procurement in isolation.
If you're considering entering Procurement today, I would strongly suggest building skills in:
📌 Procurement & Supply Chain 📌 Excel & Data Analytics 📌 Power BI 📌 ERP/SAP 📌 Process Automation 📌 AI & Emerging Technologies 📌 Strategic Sourcing 📌 Supplier Management
Because the future isn't:
