Auditing a client’s help center? Test the search words that lead readers to an article.
A fictional example: searching “change my time zone” doesn’t surface an article titled “Regional preferences.” When opened directly, the article’s steps work. A review that starts with its URL misses the search problem.
For your next audit: • Start from help-center search using a realistic reader question • Record the exact query, starting page, date and results • Check the relevant article’s instructions separately • Agree one small discoverability change with the content owner, then repeat the original query and record what happened
The missing result doesn’t prove the title caused it. Keep that explanation provisional until you’ve checked it.
Shown: the complete first page of the Knowledge Base Content Audit Kit’s working packet, which includes findability among its quality criteria. The time-zone scenario is a separate fictional illustration.
The download includes an editable Word packet, Excel tracker, print PDF, fictional completed example and Quick Start. Designed for desktop Word and Excel; PDFs are static. These manual files don’t run searches or edit your help center.
