A website redesign doesn’t always mean your website needs a completely new look.
Sometimes, the real problem is what’s happening underneath the design.
Here are some common mistakes I see during website redesigns:
→ Redesigning without understanding the problem Changing colors, fonts, and layouts won’t help if you don’t know why users are leaving or not converting.
→ Focusing only on desktop A website can look perfect on desktop and still provide a frustrating experience on mobile.
→ Adding too much More sections, animations, popups, and content don’t automatically make a website better. Good design is often about removing what isn’t necessary.
→ Ignoring the existing content A redesign is a great opportunity to review what should stay, what needs improvement, and what should be removed.
→ Breaking SEO or existing functionality A new design shouldn’t come at the cost of rankings, URLs, forms, CMS content, analytics, or other important functionality.
→ Designing without conversion in mind Every important page should have a clear purpose and guide visitors toward the next action.
My approach to redesign projects is simple:
Understand → Simplify → Redesign → Build → Optimize
Because a successful redesign isn't about making an old website look newer.
It's about making it clearer, faster, easier to use, and more effective.
That’s when a redesign actually becomes an improvement.
