Good investor research starts with the fundraising strategy.
Recently, I prepared a targeted investor research sample for a seed-stage deep-tech hardware startup.
Instead of building a generic list of VCs, I first worked from the company’s actual requirements:
Investor types Strategic angels • Micro-VCs • Deep-Tech / Hard-Tech funds
Focus areas Advanced materials • Energy storage • Aerospace • Climate-tech
Target regions USA • Europe • Singapore / Southeast Asia
Fundraising context $500K Seed round, with an initial $50K-$150K tranche focused on a 90-day hardware sprint.
I then researched and qualified investors around sector fit, stage, geography, investment focus and relevance to the company’s technology.
After reviewing the sample, the founder shared:
“The selection seems well-thought-out and a good fit for our target industries.”
For me, that's the difference between finding investors and finding relevant investors.
Research first. Qualification second. Outreach after that.
Let's connect.
