Hold Fast Storm Shutters | Royal Palm Beach, FL
THE PROBLEM I SOLVED When a hurricane threatens, a one-truck shutter installer gets every customer calling in the same 48 hours and builds the worst week of his year on a legal pad. Hold Fast turns the storm itself into the booking trigger, so the owner barely touches any of it.
JUDGES: HOW TO ACCESS THE APP The project link opens on the owner sign-in screen by design (the dashboard is the owner's private tool). Use these demo credentials to enter: Email: mike@holdfastshutters.com Password: HoldFast2026! Live app: https://holdfast-shutters.lovable.app Public pages need no login, for example enrollment: https://holdfast-shutters.lovable.app/get-a-plan Suggested path: sign in, open Storm Watch, choose "Direct hit," set winds arrival with the date picker about 96 hours out, click Activate Storm, then watch the Storm Board build itself.
HOW MIKE DOES (ALMOST) NOTHING
Customers enroll once, before the storm has a name: address, shutter type, gate code, snowbird flag, "I can't do this myself" flag.
The storm is the trigger. When a forecast cone touches the county, every enrolled home inside it activates. No phone calls.
The system triages. Homes with accordion or roll-down shutters whose owners are home get a self-close checklist by text, so no truck is needed. Everyone else is scored by distance to the storm track, and snowbirds and people who can't do it themselves jump the line, because for them Mike is the only option.
The system routes the crew zone by zone, 7am to 7pm, and stops 12 hours before winds arrive, because nobody should be on a ladder after that.
The system texts every customer their window. One tap: Confirm, I'll handle it myself, or Need a different time. No app, no login.
The schedule heals itself. If someone opts out, their slot refills automatically from the overflow list with a job that actually fits the window, and that homeowner gets a good-news text.
Homes that can't fit before the cutoff get an honest text right away with a prep guide, not a promise Mike can't keep.
After the storm, Mike taps All Clear once and every home he served gets a text to pick its own takedown window.
In the demo run: 8 homes scheduled on the crew board, 15 sent self-close instructions, and 23 calls Mike never had to take. The remaining activated homes land in Overflow with an honest "we can't reach you before the storm" text and a prep guide, because the crew genuinely can't reach everyone before the cutoff. The more runway before landfall, the more homes the crew can fit.
WHAT'S BUILT (AND WHAT'S SIMULATED) Built on Lovable with Lovable Cloud: owner login, row-level security so public customer pages only see their own appointment, a triage and routing engine, a live storm board, self-service confirm and takedown pages, and a public enrollment page. Every path was tested on the published site in a logged-out window. The demo simulates the National Hurricane Center cone so a hurricane can appear on demand, and texts appear in an in-app outbound feed rather than going through a real SMS provider. The production design activates automatically off the NHC feed and sends through a provider like Twilio.
