The Ship Under the Cloth
Inspired by a 19th-century Lampung ceremonial textile (Tampan) from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, I treated the textile not as decoration, but as a hidden architectural blueprint.
Its ship imagery, cross-sectional composition, woven boundaries, and intricate internal structures became the rules for transforming a flat textile into a monumental three-dimensional vessel.
Built in FLORA, the work explores what happens when a hidden spatial world already inside an artwork is given physical depth.
