Made this chess set a while back as part of a 3D modeling course.
I uploaded it to Sketchfab and that was pretty much where it stayed.
Recently I came back to it and thought it would be fun to actually do something with it on the web, so I brought the same old model into my portfolio and started building around it.
Camera moves, interacting with the pieces, a few chess sequences... it ended up becoming a lot more than the model I originally made.
Kinda nice seeing an old project get a second life.
I’d love to do more web work where 3D is actually part of what you interact with. If you have something along those lines, feel free to reach out.

Stunning craftsmanship! What combination of materials did you use for the board and the individual pieces?

Thanks! You actually made me reopen the old Blender file 😄 The pieces are pretty simple, just black and white materials with slightly different roughness. The board has procedural textures on the squares and a rosewood texture for the wood. I made this in 2019, so I had completely forgotten how I set it up.
