Mandao is a new dim sum concept in Lima that breaks from traditional Chinese food stereotypes and draws on the relationship between street food, skate culture, and nineties animation. For the branding, references were taken from zine-making, the world of skating, and Asian alphabets. The challenge was making them coexist — using the chaos of amateur layout and collage in just the right measure. Illustrations are at the heart of Mandao's identity. Drawing from cartoons and nineties animation — particularly independent manga and Nickelodeon shows — they condense the irreverence and humor that define the brand. The illustrations were developed by Jorge Eduardo Maita in collaboration with Conjunto Studio.
