VESPER THE HOST 🦋🎙️ Pilot: Don’t Turn On The Light

Vesper is a late-night host who has spent years building the perfect on-air persona: composed, articulate, curious, and completely in control.

There is just one problem.

He is still a moth.

For this character, I wanted the defining trait to live in his behavior, not only his appearance.

Instead of creating a conventional AI character short, I treated Vesper like the host of an existing podcast series, using interview rhythm, presenter cues, hooks, recurring character behavior, and a continuing-show structure to make the pilot feel like an actual episode.

The conflict is deliberately simple:

During the interview, Vesper’s guest pulls out a light.

The professional host disappears. Instinct takes over.

That contradiction is the foundation of the character: a sophisticated talk-show host constantly trying to maintain his dignity while being betrayed by the most basic moth instincts.

Production note

The character, performances, scenes, dialogue, and original pilot were created in Cantina Creator Studio.

My original generated episode was approximately 2:17, so I intended to use Creator Studio’s built-in editor to trim it to the Challenge length and add simple character-identification text.

I completed those edits inside Creator Studio, but the Generate step repeatedly failed and I was unable to export the edited version.

I first contacted Cantina Support about the issue on September 17, followed up on September 18, and requested escalation again on September 22 after the response I received did not resolve the editing problem.

With the deadline approaching, I did not want to leave the project unpublished because of a technical issue I had already reported and tried to resolve.

The final edit therefore uses only the original Cantina-created material, with the cuts and simple title text I originally intended to complete inside Cantina’s own editor.

No replacement scenes, externally generated footage, characters, dialogue, or alternative AI video generation were used.

I wanted to be fully transparent about the process and the reason for this workaround.
