I Followed the Rules. I Still Got Punished.
A client placed an order on my file management gig. I delivered the work on time, as promised.
Then the client asked me to continue working outside Fiverr — directly, without the platform.
I refused. Not because I didn't want the work. Because I respect the platform's rules.
The client left a negative review. My profile took a hit. My other gigs started getting ignored.
Here's what I don't understand:
Freelancers pay 20% commission to Fiverr. We follow their policies. We deliver quality work. We bring value to the platform.
But when a client breaks the rules, nothing happens to them. When a client leaves a false or retaliatory review, the seller carries the damage.
One bad review from a rule-breaking client can undo years of work.
I have 20 years of experience in media operations, data systems, and client delivery. I am not new to this. But I have learned something new:
Following the rules does not always protect you.
I am not asking for sympathy. I am asking for fairness.
Platforms need to protect the sellers who follow their policies — not just collect commission and look away when a client misbehaves.
To every freelancer who has faced this: I see you.
Has something like this happened to you? How did you handle it?
