A client once rejected my first draft.
No explanation. Just: "this isn't it."
My ego wanted to defend the draft.
Instead, I asked one question:
"What does your customer say when they're frustrated with the old solution?"
She sent me three actual customer messages.
I rewrote the copy using their exact words.
She approved it in ten minutes.
Here's what that taught me:
The best copy was never inside my head.
It was already sitting in customer messages, reviews, and support tickets I just hadn't gone looking for it yet.
Most writers try to be clever.
The good ones just pay attention.
Next time your copy isn't landing, don't rewrite from imagination.
Go find what your customers are already saying, and hand it back to them, cleaner.
What's the best copy insight you've ever pulled straight from a customer?
