Here is my submission for Renoise X Contra challenge.
"But even if his existence was an illusion...the happiness I felt with him...and the pain of losing him... were completely real."
This video is about grieving someone who was never real.
Inspired by my personal experience these days of becoming attached to a fictional character who suddenly disappeared before his release, the story follows a girl who finds comfort and happiness in someone who only fictional. He makes her lonely days feel warmer, gives her something to look forward to, and becomes a quiet source of hope.
But when he vanishes before ever truly arriving, she is left with a kind of heartbreak that is hard to explain.
Through this video, I wanted to show that fictional characters may not exist in our world, but the emotions they give us are real.
The comfort is real. The happiness is real. The grief is real.

The dust behind a motorcycle on a dirt road is the same dust that drifts across Mars and maybe the same dust we're all made of.
I've never edited a video in my life. I build software for a living. But I found Renoise, saw this challenge, and as someone who can't resist one, I treated it the only way I knew how: as a problem to solve, shot by shot. 17 scenes, one storyboard, a lot of trial and error from a cornfield on Earth to the red plains of Mars.
I didn't know how to make a film. So I just kept asking: what does this feel like? And chased that frame by frame.

AFTERLIFE is a 26.9-second cinematic dystopian short imagining a future where the Afterlife has become a commercial service. People willingly queue for the promise of eternal reunion, never realizing that the same perfect family memories sold to them are used to keep an endless industrial workforce obedient.
Every image and video clip was created in Renoise Canvas using a reference-driven workflow with AI image generation, FacePass, and AI video generation, then edited into a single cinematic short with original sound design.
