Launched a site and it's not showing up in Google? Before rewriting content, check the boring stuff. These are the first five things I check, and each one is quick to find and fix.
1) A leftover noindex. A staging setting (meta robots tag or X-Robots-Tag header) shipped to production. In WordPress it's the "Discourage search engines" checkbox.
2) robots.txt blocks the crawl. A forgotten "Disallow: /" or a rule that catches more than intended.
3) The canonical points somewhere else. The homepage, the staging domain, or the http / non-www version.
4) Redirects, 404s and soft 404s. Redirect chains, URLs that died by accident, empty pages that still return 200.
5) Googlebot hits a wall. A password, login gate or firewall rule returning 401/403.
Fastest check: paste the URL into Search Console's URL Inspection and run a live test. It shows which one you're hitting.
