One of my favorite projects is my personal branding for Studio Kalili. I enjoyed designing a logo that represents my demeanor—calm with bursts of joy! 💚

The logo design came down to two options. I wanted to go with the first design that has the ball because it added contrast & emphasized centered energy. But I knew that there might be a legibility issue.

As part of my process, I wanted to make sure that the logo was read correctly, so I asked people around me. Just as I suspected, they read “studi kalili” instead of “studio kalili”. 😭

I learned that the first type of design works best when the playful element is nested between other letters, that way it actually reads as part of the word! Also don't skip your legibility test.

I am so happy with the final design—it conveys the playfulness I wanted while still being legible! ✨

why is it so much harder to brand yourself than it is to brand a client?

I'm working on a MUCH needed rebrand for my own studio at the moment and the amount of second-guessing involved is genuinely shocking for someone who does this for a living. You're just so close to it! My studio is my baby, and I suppose it’s quite hard to assign a single five-colour palette to a baby…

That being said, I’m starting to really fall in love with the direction its moving towards and am so, so excited to share the final visual identity (including a new website!) once it’s finally ready. I’ve grown so much since I started two years ago, so I’m very much looking forward to having a brand that’s been caught up to speed.

Recently worked on a project for https://joindawn.com/ on the release of their new product. Hired by my friend https://x.com/hunterthompson to create the initial logo and creative direction. He always brings me great projects that give me room to really push the logo and brand work. With Dawn, I explored a wide range of directions — looking at how we could express sun, serenity, and mental health in a way that felt warm, calm, and approachable. These were some of the early explorations across a few different visual directions.
