The AI projects that actually stick aren't the flashy ones.
They're the ones where someone looked at a task their team did every single week and asked does a human really need to be doing this?
I built an automation for a team that was manually emailing 50 contractors every week, tracking responses through email threads, and building availability calendars by hand. Hours every week. Every week.
The replacement? One batch email goes out. A form captures availability. Confirmations fire automatically. A color-coded calendar builds itself.
Nobody had to learn a new tool. Nobody had to change their process. They just stopped doing the part a computer should have been doing.
That's where I see AI and automation delivering the most consistent ROI. Not transforming entire organizations overnight, but quietly eliminating the repetitive, low-judgment work that drains good people every single week.

A service agency came to us with a familiar problem: their team was manually chasing clients for updates, following up on internal tasks, and losing hours every week to the same repetitive loop.
Most people jump straight to "automate it." We don't.
Step 1: Map the mess first.
We shadowed the actual workflow. Who sends what, when, and why. Turns out, 60% of the follow-ups existed because there was no shared visibility into task status. People were pinging each other just to figure out where things stood.
Step 2: Fix the process before adding tech.
We restructured the handoff points. Clear ownership at each stage. One source of truth for task status. No more "just checking in" messages clogging up Slack.
Step 3: Layer automation on top of a clean process.
Only after the workflow made sense on paper did we wire up automated status updates, reminders, and escalation triggers. The automation didn't replace the process. It enforced it.
The result:
Fewer manual follow-ups. Faster handoffs. The team stopped chasing and started executing. The client said it felt like they "hired two extra people" without adding headcount.
The takeaway: Automation built on a broken process just breaks faster. Map it first. Clean it up. Then automate what's left.
For this project, I was completely exhausted, my eyes hurting badly.
But I refused to leave it halfway.
The more I learn, the more I realize businesses don’t actually have an information problem.
They have a retrieval problem.

AI is a great copilot, but it’s a terrible captain.
With AI coding assistants, it’s easy to fall into the trap of letting the LLM drive the entire development workflow. You prompt, copy, paste, and pray.
But our value as software engineers has never been about how fast we type syntax. It’s about system design, critical thinking, and code ownership.
Our role is evolving from builders to technical pilots. If you completely delegate the workflow, you lose control of the project.

Design First, Prompt Second: Define your architecture, data flow, and edge cases before touching an LLM. Use AI to implement, not to invent.
Deconstruct: Break features into micro-steps. Guide the AI through isolated, high-context tasks (schema ➡️ logic ➡️ error handling).
Radical Skepticism: Treat AI code like a PR from an intern who is incredibly fast but occasionally hallucinates. Test and review every single line.
Own the "Why": If a bug hits production, "the AI wrote it" is not an option. You are responsible for the code you ship.
