Thanks to the Figma Makeathon, I have been able to use all the great Figma Make features to create my very first Figma project — CULTURAE. This web app is a Renaissance-themed cultural discovery platform where personality quizzes, a living world map, tactile parchment card-swiping, and Web Audio synthesis combine into one interconnected scholarly expedition across the world's food and music traditions. My hardest rodeo, for the grandest prize! Here's what this entry is all about: Being someone who spends 75% of my day on the web, I know that the web at times feels “template-ish.” Maybe in the quest to create the most creative designs, we ended up ignoring the core fundamentals that make innovation feel “creative.” With this in mind, I tried to assign an interaction to the web’s most commonly used actions and icons. Not only that, I redefined galleries, carousels, endless scrolling, gestures (hold the screen to enter the sphere and double tap to reset), design language, SVGs, and SVG animations.
