VS Code just shipped the feature I've been waiting for.
Context window viewer
You can finally see how much of the context is used no more guessing based on whether the AI responses start getting worse.
I've been using VS Code for years. Work provides GitHub Copilot, and honestly, I'm just used to it. Switching to Cursor or Claude Code felt like friction even though they had this feature.
Now I don't have to switch.
It's already changed how I work:
I'm not guessing anymore.
When I hit 90% context, I start a new chat.
It's forcing me to break tasks into smaller pieces so the context stays clean.
Simple feature, but it makes a real difference.
