Over the past year, I’ve noticed that Contra attracts far more demand for creative roles, such as design, UI/UX, branding, and motion, but comparatively fewer roles in analytics, data, backend, or core tech support.
I initially assumed this was a temporary skew, but from what I’ve seen, it hasn’t changed much. As a result, I still rely heavily on Upwork for analytics and product/data work, as the client base there encompasses a broader range of needs.
This isn’t a critique of Contra. The platform feels well-built and creator-friendly. I’m just curious why this pattern exists. Is it a positioning or branding thing? Are early-stage startups on Contra mostly hiring for design first? Or am I missing where this demand actually lives?
Would love to hear from others in analytics, engineering, or product.
