Why does a "beautiful" Shopify store still convert at 1%?
Clients obsess over clean design. Whitespace, fonts, the right shade of beige. Meanwhile, the homepage loads in 4.2 seconds, and the add-to-cart button is buried below three banners nobody asked for.
Design gets you the screenshot. Speed and CRO get you the sale.
I've rebuilt stores that looked "perfect" in Figma and converted worse than the messy version they replaced. The difference wasn't taste. It was load time, checkout friction, and whether the page actually guided someone to buy.
Clean design matters. But it's not the thing making you money. Speed is. Clarity is. Removing every reason someone has to hesitate is.
Next time you're choosing between "make it prettier" and "make it faster," pick faster.
What's your store actually optimized for right now, looks or sales?

"Design gets you the screenshot, speed and CRO get you the sale" is the clearest way I've heard this framed. The 4.2 second load time buried under three banners nobody asked for is painfully familiar.

Appreciate that, especially the "painfully familiar" part. Most of the time those banners aren't even a design decision, they're three different apps nobody removed after the campaign ended. Speed dies by a thousand small additions, not one big mistake.
