🌲 Holiday Grief Companion — UX prototype
I designed a gentle holiday grief companion focused on humane, trauma-aware UX. Instead of forcing “cheer,” it creates space to slow down, remember, and breathe.
Design priorities • optional interactions, no streaks or pressure • soft language, no “fixing” tone • calm pacing and minimal motion • clear crisis resources presented respectfully • local only — nothing typed is collected or stored
Core flows • light-a-candle ritual with a simple log • winter journal with changeable prompts • quiet breathing animation • onboarding that sets expectations and boundaries
Open to feedback on tone, flow, accessibility, and ethical design choices.

This is a thoughtful, restraint-driven approach—especially strong how you’ve designed absence of pressure as a feature, not a limitation. Curious question: how did you decide where to draw the line between supportive guidance and complete user autonomy, especially around rituals and prompts?

Thanks so much! That really means a lot. For me, the line came from asking, “What actually supports someone, and what starts to feel like pressure?”.
I tried to include enough guidance so people never feel lost, but not so much that it becomes prescriptive. If something started...

Thanks! I’m glad the colors feel right. I wanted it to feel calm and cozy instead of loud or “cheery.”

Optional interactions and minimal motion are such good calls in this context. It lets people meet the experience where they are

Thanks, Alex. That means a lot. I really wanted it to feel like there’s no pressure, just support when someone needs it ✨

This is really thoughtful work. I love how intentionally you’ve designed absence — no pressure, no forced cheer, just space.

Thank you so much, Lynne. I really appreciate that. I spent a lot of time thinking about the tone and how the visuals hold space without getting loud. I’m glad that came through.
