I recently wrapped a project that looked nothing like my usual work but it felt like a god fit. I'm typically behind the scenes -- building systems, managing operations, keeping the backend of online education businesses running smoothly. Spreadsheets, automations, SOPs. That's me. But a few months ago I took on a fractional growth partner role for an early stage Bay Area startup and ended up doing something I'd never done before: building an entire partnership and community growth operation from scratch. We're talking cold outreach, DM strategy, publication pitches, event concepts, partner proposals, collab playbooks. For gyms, run clubs, fitness influencers, singles events organizers, hiking communities, local publications. All of it built from zero in about six weeks at ten hours a week. But here's what surprised me: my ops brain was the most useful thing I brought to it. Because growth + partnerships without systems is just DM and email chaos. The outreach worked because I built a tone guide and template bank so every message felt consistent. The partnerships moved forward because I built a tracker to manage next steps and never let warm leads go cold. The events felt credible because I took the time to document the concepts, the formats, and the value proposition for each partner type before anyone got on a call. The ops skills transferred completely. They just revealed themselves in new ways. A few things I'd take into any early stage engagement after this: - Segment everything. A message that works for a fitness influencer will fall flat with a gym owner. Knowing who you're talking to and what they actually care about is the whole game. -Build the infrastructure before you need it, but adjust as you learn patterns. Templates, trackers, tone guides. They're what allow you to scale quickly without losing quality or consistency. -Warm leads go cold fast. Follow up!! If you're a founder building something early stage and you're doing everything yourself -- the outreach, the partnerships, the systems, the strategy. This is exactly the work I'm looking for more of. Let's talk!
