🏛️ THE MUSEUM OF LOST THINGS — A museum you don’t visit. A world you discover.
What if you could explore a museum, uncover forgotten stories, and restore lost artefacts without ever leaving your home?
That’s the idea behind The Museum of Lost Things, an interactive digital museum I built with Base44.
💡 The idea
Museums hold stories worth discovering, but not everyone has the time, money, or opportunity to visit one. And online, history can sometimes feel like nothing more than pictures and paragraphs.
I wanted to make the experience more hands-on. Something people could explore at their own pace, where curiosity leads to discovery.
🎮 What I built
🔎 The Object Vault: Discover forgotten objects and explore the stories behind them.
🛠️ The Restoration Lab: Bring damaged artefacts back together through interactive restoration challenges.
🖼️ The Curator’s Workshop: Create your own exhibitions by choosing objects and arranging them into collections.
📚 My Discoveries: Keep track of your discoveries and build a collection of objects and exhibitions.
🏫 For Schools & Museums: Explore how interactive digital exhibitions could help educators and cultural organisations share history with wider audiences.
🎨 The design
I didn’t want this to look like another website full of cards and buttons. I wanted it to feel like a place.
The visual direction centres on an illustrated museum with interconnected rooms, colourful spaces, hidden details, and discoveries waiting to be found. The goal is to make exploring the museum feel as interesting as the stories inside it.
⚙️ The automation depth
The idea goes beyond displaying information. The experience is designed around a connected journey: discover an object, learn its story, complete a restoration challenge, and build a personal collection.
Where implemented, saving progress, tracking discoveries, and managing curated exhibitions can reduce repetitive steps and make the experience more personal. For schools and cultural organisations, the concept also opens the door to reusable digital learning experiences and exhibitions that reach people beyond physical museum walls.
🚀 Why I built it
I wanted to explore what happens when the experience itself becomes the product.
Not just a place to read about history, but a place to interact with it, piece it together, and make something of your own.
There’s still room to grow the idea, but that’s what makes this project exciting to me: the possibility of turning forgotten objects into experiences people can actually take part in.
