Tech-Esoteric Arcana — Historical Woodcuts Collide with Modern Tech
This series translates classical 17th- and 18th-century tarot card engravings into a modern tech-spiritual field guide. By fusing historical occult and alchemical card art with present-day technological habits, each piece reimagines ancient arcana through a contemporary lens—incorporating VR headsets, smartwatches, biohacking pods, mobile vlogging rigs, and e-scooters into the traditional compositions.
The visual style relies on coarse woodblock contours, cross-hatched ink shading, and authentic 18th-century hand-painted stencil color washes of ochre yellow, lapis blue, rust red, and sage green, all set against aged parchment textures. Modeled directly after historical woodcut figures from 17th-century French and Italian playing cards—including the Tarot of François Jerger and Vergnano Tarot—the project brings pre-1931 public domain archives into a vivid, modern collision.
