A client has a limited budget for the next quarter: fix the technical foundation or chase visible content wins. Which would you choose?
Technical fixes are largely invisible to a business owner; nobody sees a crawl budget improvement or a resolved canonical issue. But they often unlock ranking potential for content that's already published and quietly underperforming.
Content wins are visible, easy to report on, and satisfying to point to. But stacking new content on top of unresolved technical issues can mean the new pages inherit the same ceiling the old ones are already hitting.
My honest answer depends on severity: if the technical issues are actively suppressing indexation or rankings, they come first, always. If they're more minor inefficiencies, I'll sometimes sequence a visible content win first to build client confidence and buy-in for the less visible technical work that follows.
Where do you land on this, especially with clients who need to see results fast to stay convinced the investment is working?
