Haircuts can be a lot.
The buzzing clippers. Bright lights. Loud conversations. Waiting. Being touched by someone new. And sometimes the pressure to sit still while another appointment is already waiting.
This idea is personal to me. My nephew is autistic, and loud noises can be difficult for him. It made me think about how different a haircut could feel if the shop was prepared before a child ever walked through the door, instead of the family having to explain everything at the chair, or the barber feeling rushed because the next client is coming.
That’s where Chairside came from.
Chairside gives families a way to share what helps ahead of time so the visit can be planned around the person, things like quieter appointment times, softer lighting, extra time, breaks, meeting the barber first, or access to sensory supports such as fidgets.
And just as importantly, it gives the barber the time and information to be ready. No guessing. No rushing someone through because the appointment was booked for a standard amount of time.
The goal isn’t to label anyone or require a diagnosis. It’s simply to ask a better question:
What would make this visit easier for you?
Because sometimes feeling welcome starts before you ever sit in the chair. 💈
Chairside .....Tell us what helps. We’ll have it ready.
