Designed and developed an immersive editorial website for HANWAG Stories, the content-driven storytelling platform of HANWAG, a German outdoor footwear brand with a heritage dating back to 1921.
The objective was to create more than a conventional brand blog. The experience needed to inspire outdoor enthusiasts, educate hikers and trekkers, showcase the people behind the brand, and tell product stories while maintaining a strong connection to HANWAG's heritage and outdoor identity.
The website is organized around distinct content experiences including Inspiration, Know-How, Sole People, Inside HANWAG, and Product Stories. This structure makes a large and diverse content library easier to explore while giving visitors multiple ways to discover stories based on their interests.
The Inspiration section focuses on hiking destinations, outdoor adventures, photography, alpine experiences, and personal stories from people who spend their lives outdoors. Articles range from hiking the Fisherman's Trail in Portugal and exploring Hong Kong's trails to stories from alpine herders and outdoor photographers.
The Know-How section adds practical value through educational content covering hiking footwear, wild camping, women's boot fits, boot maintenance, long-distance hiking, winter hiking, and preparation for demanding outdoor adventures. This creates a useful resource hub rather than a website that simply promotes products.
A particularly strong part of the experience is the Sole People section, which brings the brand to life through profiles of hikers, bushcraft experts, alpine farmers, and other outdoor personalities. Meanwhile, Inside HANWAG gives visitors insight into the company's European manufacturing, heritage, craftsmanship, and history.
The Product Stories section connects editorial storytelling with HANWAG's footwear, allowing products such as the Tatra II, Alverstone II, and Banks to be presented through detailed stories rather than relying solely on traditional product pages.
From a UI/UX perspective, the design prioritizes large-scale outdoor imagery, editorial layouts, clear category navigation, readable typography, and content discovery. The result is an experience that feels closer to a premium digital outdoor magazine while still maintaining a clear connection to the HANWAG brand and its products.
The website also supports multilingual content in English, German, and Dutch, incorporates newsletter subscription, and provides direct pathways back to the main HANWAG website and store locator.
The result is a visually engaging, content-rich brand storytelling platform that combines editorial web design, outdoor storytelling, product education, brand heritage, and content architecture into a scalable digital experience.
