FAQs

  • What is a dxf pattern?

This is a standard format for a digital form of a flat pattern. Pattern making programs like Gerber, Optitex and Lectra will export this file type to be used by the manufacturer.

  • Can you make 3D samples just from my photos of clothing?

Technically garments can be made in 3D from scratch without an existing pattern. However I do not recommend this because it will not truly be a digital twin. Though you can create flat patterns in 3D software, they will not be as accurate. It is best to use software focused on flat pattern making to get the best results in 3D.

  • Can you make my dxf patterns for me?

This is not part of my services at this time. I recommend using a skilled professional tech designer or pattern maker that is experienced in making patterns using software like Gerber, Lectra or Optitex.

  • What if I have only paper versions of my patterns?

It is highly recommended to seek a pattern digitization service in order to use these patterns in 3D. In the long run digitizing your paper patterns is a safeguard for the future, regardless if you are using 3D. Digital patterns can be kept safe from damage like flood and fire. It is also the standard format most manufacturers require today.

What's included

  • 3D files

The 3D files will be made in the native format of Clo3D, Style3D or Browzwear, client's choice based on which software they are already using or transitioning to. The file will be the garment sewn virtually from the existing dxf pattern file. Product will be simulated using appropriate fabric physics but will be in white with all stitching and trim in black. This service is recommended for brands that are already implementing 3D in their workflow but need a boost in fleshing out their digital twin library of existing garments, while their staff is still upskilling in 3D. This service is great for your best sellers, blocks and core styles that you will use season after season to create new collections. These files can easily be edited and colorways added to create your assortment plan without starting from scratch.
