Summary

An iPhone app MVP designed in Figma. Using either your existing brand guidelines (or pointing at some visual inspiration), I'll work with you to create a design of an initial version for your iPhone app. We'll make sure it's simple, usable, and beautiful—so you can use it as a north star for engineering, customers, and investors.

Process

Phase 0: Introductions [1h]
A quick Zoom to meet and talk about your business, product, progress to date, and goals.
Phase 1: Collaborative Brief Creation [Week 1]
Using whatever written documentation you currently have, I'll create a product brief for the work and get feedback from you asynchronously in Notion. Then we'll make sure we're both committed to it before we get into the design tools.
Phase 2: Rough User Flows [Week 1–2]
Based on your app's purpose and your user's job to be done, I'll sketch out the primary flows through the app and the various paths they will take. This will either be sketched on an iPad or in a notebook. Don't expect a fancy deliverable here; the goal is to get to think and get to alignment fast.
Phase 3: Interface Component System [Week 2–3]
Using whatever brand guidelines you have (or don't yet have), I'll create the constituent parts of your app's interfaces as a component system in Figma. This will enable me to construct the final views, and will be available for your team to use for future design work and prototyping.
Phase 4: App Deliverable & Documentation [Week 3–4]
I'll use the previous work to create pixel perfect, high-fidelity mocks of your app in Figma. And I'll document the requirements and design decisions in our feature brief to help your engineers be as efficient as possible.

FAQs

  • Why you?

    I've been a startup founder and/or first product designer for over a decade. I understand what's needed to go 0 -> 1 with a product, and the pitfalls that await you on your quest. I live in Figma, write feature briefs in my sleep, and have designed multiple apps which have been App of the Day in Apple's App Store.

  • Do you design for Android?

    Nope. For most products, it's wise to get your new user experience and core loops right on iOS before spending capital building and launching for Android. If it's critical to launch on Android simultaneously, I can help you find a design contractor who can adapt what we create to Android.

  • What's the refund policy?

    No refunds once the work begins. But if after our introductory call, we don't seem like a mutual fit, email me within 24 hours that you want to go a different direction. We won't kick the project off and I can refund in full.

  • Can you integrate into my engineering team?

    Not here. Launch is focused on designing something to go 0->1, either starting fresh or in a parallel thread to your current team. I'll collaborate with you, the founder/product owner, and I'll provide an effective hand-off to your engineers. But I won't be attending standups or in your #engineering channel. I do offer per-week fractional design consulting as a separate service for that if it's useful.
