When I am editing, I am in conversation with you as an author and also with your text. My primary goals are thoroughness, correctness, and accuracy. I will respect your voice as an author, and I will tell you what you did right in addition to pointing out what still needs a bit of adjustment. Each editing project includes two passes to make sure that your writing is the best it can be.

My qualifications include a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, the professional certificate in editing from UC Berkeley Extension, and six years of editing experience, in addition to ten years as an instructor at major universities.

Past editing clients include Clemson University Press, University Press of Mississippi, Flatpage, and Westchester Publishing Services. I have also done editing for individual clients on Upwork and through the Editorial Freelancers Association.

one thorough editing pass using tracked changes and comments

one style sheet tracking the spelling of names and other details to ensure consistency

one brief editorial memo discussing the strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript

a second editing pass on author's changes only

follow-up time after the first editing pass (amount of time depends on manuscript length)

You will receive the style sheet, the memo, and one copy of the edited manuscript with all changes tracked for the first pass. For the second pass, you will receive a clean copy of the manuscript with all changes accepted and all comments deleted.

I prefer to use MS Word for editing, but I may also be able to work with Google Docs or Scrivener.
