A design system is important to manage growth and help create consistency and cohesion between products. In its most basic form is a framework of building blocks based on a collection of design and code decisions.

I like to use a similar structure to the Atomic Design Methodology for my design systems. I use a Foundations > Components > Patterns > Pages structure, with all files being linked to the original component library.
