I'll describe my usual approach to editing, which I consider highly organized and have even been praised for before. Upon receiving a project, my first step is to identify the intended audience, message, duration, and target platforms. This allows me to prepare to select the most accurate footage and create a visual or content flow that will effectively convey the desired message.

Next, I gather technical details such as the frame rate, resolution, and codecs needed for the project, as well as any specific requirements such as transitions, music, typography, and text or voiceover content. I then select the most relevant and engaging content that aligns with the project's goals and label/organize everything by category for future reference and quick access.

Later I fine-tune the cut to ensure that it flows smoothly, using either speech or musical rhythm as a vector. This includes balancing audio levels, adding or creating graphics, and maintaining consistency with any brand guidelines.

Once I have a first draft, I share it with my client for feedback. After any necessary revisions are made and the final picture is locked, I proceed to color grade if needed. Once the color is finalized and the message and visuals are approved, I export the final product with the settings required for the intended destination platforms.

Throughout the entire process, I like using a workflow that creates a new version with each pass of the video. This allows me to easily go back and access previous work if needed. I also back up exports and project files and store them for a year to ensure that they can be accessed if needed in the future. Overall, my approach ensures a highly organized project and impactful product that effectively communicates the intended message. This has been so effective, I keep on replicating it with success. Using shortcuts and a lot of presets I've created during all my years as an editor, also greatly speeds up my work.
