We begin each website project by asking the client to state the site's goals and give examples of other websites they like to give me a better idea of their design aesthetic. The client is also asked to provide a site architecture and content for all the pages. Content is analyzed to ensure it aligns with the project goals and messaging is relevant to the target audience. The design process starts with two options for the home page (created in Photoshop), letting the supplied content determine the layout of various sections within the page. Generally, there is a round or two of feedback to finalize the design, after which the basic process is repeated for the remaining pages. Once all page designs have been approved, they go into the development funnel. The static mockups are recreated with HTML within a WordPress content management system. All pages are built with responsive functionality, so they automatically reformat to display content optimally depending on the screen size (desktop/laptop vs. smaller devices like a tablet or smartphone). Pages in development are hosted on a staging server and tested across platforms and browsers for bugs. Once everything has been approved, the site is uploaded to the client’s host to go live.
