I'll help you address any issues you're having, and provide a mix meeting your stylistic goals. Here's the general process:
You provide multi-track "stems" of the song. This means that each sound or track of the recording is rendered to a separate file, with any mixing effects removed, except for those you want for stylistic reasons. Each stem should be the same length, covering the whole of the song, even if the sound doesn't play for the whole time.
You can also provide a rough mix, or a reference of another song you'd like it to sound like. Even if you're not happy with your mix, it can be helpful to get an idea of what you want emphasized.
I get to work balancing elements, EQing and compressing as needed, and generally getting everything to fit together nicely. I also take notes on what I'm doing, to help you understand the process, and to clarify any areas where a creative choice presents itself.
I send you back a render, and then, based on your feedback, revise the mix so it meets your goals.
