About this service

Summary

A custom typeface can be one of the best ways to make a brand identity stand out from the crowd (although, there may be other usages for custom fonts too—happy to work with you either way!).

Throughout my career, I have designed dozens of typefaces and hundreds of fonts, from wild and expressive display type to minimalist functional sans serifs. Many of these were made on commission for companies for usage in internal projects.

My process always starts with an explorative phase, to properly scope out the needs that your custom typeface must meet. I then sketch out a basic alphabet, which I digitize and expand using professional font-production software, including FontLab and Glyphs. There is a lot of fine detail in the making of a typeface, but I know my tools and will assure a professional quality product.

The scope of a custom typeface can vary wildly depending on the intended usage. Sometimes, all that is needed is A-Z, other times a glyphset of well over a thousand characters is required. Likewise, some typefaces require only one style, where some type families can consist of dozens, if not hundreds of variations in weight, width, slant, optical size and more.

If you are interested in learning more about the process, I'd love to talk!

What's included

  • A custom digital typeface!

What exactly that entails will vary based on the project. It could be a whole family, or a single style. Sans, serif, script, blackletter; display or text. Deliverables will always be in the form of OTF, TTF, WOFF and WOFF2 files, and variable TTF files in the case of variable fonts. Additional file types can be provided if needed.

  • Graphic Design

Need somebody to help you put your brand new typeface to use? I can assist with that too!
