Linux Server Upgrade & Migration with Rollback PlanJoseph Joseph
Running an end-of-life Ubuntu release or an old PHP version you're afraid to touch? I'll upgrade or migrate one Linux server to a supported stack, with a tested rollback path, so the change is predictable instead of a gamble.
Who it's for
Teams and site owners with a production or staging server on an unsupported OS or runtime (for example Ubuntu 14.04/16.04/18.04, or PHP 5.x/7.x) who need it on a supported release without surprises.
How it works
Assessment: I review the server (read-only access or sanitized config is fine): OS, packages, services, PHP extensions, cron jobs, web server config, and dependencies that could break.
Plan: you get a written upgrade plan with risks ranked, a backup/snapshot step, and an explicit rollback procedure before anything changes.
Upgrade or migrate: in-place upgrade or move to a fresh server, whichever is safer for your setup, scripted with Ansible or Bash where it helps repeatability.
Verify and hand off: I test the site/app and services, fix compatibility issues, and leave you a runbook.
Background
12 years in Linux operations across GitHub (Microsoft), SAP and Walmart, including Ansible hardening and patching across thousands of production nodes.
Scope covers one server. Multi-server fleets or large application code rewrites are quoted separately.
