Turning a Boring Time Picker into a Playful Learning Experience for Kids Most time picker widgets are designed for adults. They’re functional, but they don’t encourage exploration or make learning enjoyable. For this concept, I redesigned a standard time selection component into a child-friendly experience using playful illustrations, bright colours, and soft rounded shapes while keeping the interaction clear and intuitive. Every visual element has a purpose, from the colour-coded timeline to the oversized time cards and friendly characters that make scheduling feel less intimidating. The interaction is fully grounded in real-world logic. The timeline accurately represents the selected duration, the labels remain consistent, and the visual hierarchy ensures children can understand the relationship between start time, end time, and total duration at a glance. The accompanying animation focuses on subtle motion rather than decoration. Characters gently bounce, the slider glides smoothly across the timeline, colours transition naturally, and micro-interactions provide feedback without overwhelming young users. This concept demonstrates that educational interfaces don’t have to sacrifice usability for personality. A well-designed UI can be both delightful and functionally accurate. The animation follows a simple loop where a vintage folder drops into the scene, opens to reveal a collection of magazines, then neatly closes and floats away, creating a satisfying, seamless cycle. Designed with a minimal motion language and clean physics, the focus is on natural movement rather than flashy effects. The combination of nostalgic textures, bold colours, and subtle 3D depth creates a timeless visual that feels equally suited for branding, editorial experiences, or digital storytelling.

The interface uses a deep navy background with bold blue CTAs, clear typography and focused match cards, helping users understand upcoming fixtures within seconds. The design was simplified specifically for a smaller screen, with larger touch targets, reduced navigation and strong visual hierarchy. Calendar controls, live indicators and team details remain easy to scan without making the interface feel crowded, creating a practical companion experience for basketball fans on the move.

The design focuses on strong visual hierarchy, balanced spacing and clear interaction states. Bold timer typography, rounded controls and subtle depth help the interface feel approachable without becoming visually cluttered, creating a distinctive concept suitable for a mobile timer, audio recorder or productivity application.
