A declining market doesn't always mean a declining opportunity.
I was looking at the latest CMS usage statistics, and one thing caught my attention.
šŸ“‰ WordPress powers around 40.1% of all websites.
šŸ“‰ Joomla powers around 1.1%.
These figures show a changing landscape. But here's the question I find more interesting:
Does a smaller market mean there is no business left?
Not necessarily.
Thousands of existing websites still need:
šŸ”§ CMS migrations and version upgrades šŸ”’ Security fixes and malware removal ⚔ Performance optimization šŸ› ļø Custom extensions and functionality šŸ› Bug fixing and ongoing technical support
Businesses don't always need a complete rebuild. Sometimes, they need an experienced developer who can solve a difficult problem in the system they already use.
That's where specialist expertise matters.
My take: Don't just follow the biggest technology. Become exceptionally good at solving the problems its users face.
I'm curious to hear from other developers:
Are you seeing more demand for WordPress development, custom frameworks like Laravel, or maintenance of existing CMS websites?
