Most page builders are built by designers, for designers. This one wasn't for them.
The users here are business owners and marketers who need a page live this week. They don't have a design vocabulary, they don't want to learn one, and they will abandon anything that asks them to. So the constraint wasn't "make it powerful" but “anybody should be able to design anything."
Two decisions carry most of the work:
Elements group by what they do, not what they are. Layouts define structure, Blocks are the atomic content pieces, Widgets are the pre-composed functional ones. You learn the hierarchy once and stop hunting through a flat list of forty items.
Properties float instead of docking by default. A fixed rail pushes the canvas sideways, so you end up styling a layout you can no longer see. This panel is draggable, expandable, and dismissible. The canvas never moves.
I'm Ritik - a Product Designer with 8+ years on my belt. I came to design from front-end engineering, which is why my systems tend to ship intact: I design against the constraints they'll actually meet in code. My focus is design systems, platform architecture, builder experiences, and turning business expectations higher.
