The Midnight Motel: Night Shift is a small survival game set in a roadside motel where the power has just died. The ghost at reception hands you a torch, and you have to keep the things in the fog away until 6 AM.
How it plays • Aim the torch with your mouse and hold the light on a ghost to banish it • The rare master ghosts take a lot longer under the light, so save your pumpkins for them • Click the glowing pumpkins to collect them, then lob one with Space and it blasts whatever is near where it lands • Ring the bell for a few seconds of full lights, and banishing 3 or more in a row gives you a combo bonus • Every hour brings a bigger wave, and the end card gives you a rank and your best score • P pauses, M mutes
How I built it: I built the whole thing with the Rive CLI. The scene is written in RML (view model, data binding and state machines), the game logic runs in Luau scripts (a Director for the story, camera and rules, and a script for the ghosts and pumpkins), and the torch, the fog banks, the rain and the ground mist are WGSL shaders on the GPU Canvas.
Features used Rive CLI, GPU Canvas (WGSL shaders), Luau scripting, data binding, view models, state machines
