MiniMax Design — AI creativity is slowly moving beyond the prompt era.
MiniMax just launched Design, and this is not just another image or video generator.
The idea is much more interesting:
to bring the entire creative production process into one workspace — from the first idea to a finished video.
Instead of the usual chain:
ChatGPT → Midjourney → Seedance → ElevenLabs → Premiere
we are starting to see one environment where AI can break the task into stages and assign different agents to different parts of the production.
How it works
You give it a brief.
For example:
“Create a 30-second car commercial. Night Tokyo, 8 shots, premium cinematic aesthetic.”
The main Agent analyzes the task, builds a plan, and distributes the work between specialized agents.
Copy Agent handles text and scripting. Image Agent creates visuals. Video Agent works with video and timeline. Audio Agent handles voiceover and sound.
Some of these processes can run in parallel.
But the most interesting part is not even the agents.
Canvas
MiniMax Design has a visual Canvas where one project can contain:
idea → script → storyboard → images → video → music → edit
The nodes are connected.
So we are no longer talking about isolated generations.
We are talking about a production project.
It feels like something between Weavy, ComfyUI, and an AI producer that manages the whole creative process.
Skills
And this is where, in my opinion, things get really important.
A Skill in MiniMax Design is not just a prompt.
It is a saved workflow.
There are already Skills for commercials, short films, storyboards, 3D animation, music videos, e-commerce and other creative tasks.
But you can also create your own Skills.
So theoretically, you can build your own production system:
Idea → Event → Scenes → Beats → Director’s script → Blocking → Storyboard → Generative beats → Prompts → Video → Edit
And you do not have to explain the whole methodology to AI every single time.
You build the production logic once — then reuse it as a tool.
That is the shift I find important.
For a long time, AI creativity was centered around the prompt.
We were searching for the right words, the right model, the right settings.
Now the center of gravity is moving.
The value is no longer in one perfect prompt.
The value is in a correctly built sequence of actions.
Not:
PROMPT → VIDEO
But:
IDEA → PLAN → PRODUCTION PROCESS → AGENTS → GENERATIONS → REVIEW → EDIT → RESULT
And that already feels much closer to filmmaking.
In cinema, nobody says:
“Here is the script, now automatically make the movie.”
There is a process:
script, direction, storyboard, shooting, sound, editing, color.
AI is starting to move in the same direction.
A few more interesting details about MiniMax Design:
• Agents can pause at checkpoints and ask for human decisions. • Project materials are stored in a local Asset Center. • Agents can work with local files. • The model for a task can be selected automatically, but manual choice is still available. • Skills can be saved and reused. • MiniMax H3 works natively inside the platform.
I would not call MiniMax Design a replacement for DaVinci, Premiere, Weavy, or specialized generators yet.
The product is new.
But the direction is much more important than the product itself.
We are slowly moving from the era of AI generators to the era of AI production systems.
And in that world, the winner will not be the person who knows the longest prompt.
The winner will be the person who knows how to build the right process from idea to final result.
