What if a museum artifact wasn't just something you came to see, but something you could take a piece of the story home with you?
For the Flora Museum Challenge, I reimagined a traditional samurai artifact as a limited-edition contemporary collectible. The idea was to bridge the gap between cultural heritage and the way younger generations discover, collect and connect with objects today.
Instead of changing the identity of the original samurai, I kept its intricate armor, helmet, mask, ornamentation and craftsmanship intact, then translated it into a premium designer collectible. The transparent packaging turns it from an artifact on display into an artifact made for display.
I imagined the collection as 100 pieces per edition, making each one feel curated rather than mass-produced. And because culture doesn't belong to just one moment in time, I created five seasonal editions:
THE ORIGINAL — Legacy in Motion THE SNOW — Purity in Power THE SHADOW — Tradition Evolves THE OCEAN — Depth in Heritage THE SAKURA — Beauty Persists
Each season gets its own colour, material and packaging treatment while keeping the same character at its core.
The thought behind the entire collection:
A NEW GENERATION OF OLD THINGS.
Because sometimes the best way to preserve a story isn't to keep it behind glass.
It's to give the next generation a reason to want to keep it.
