There’s a difference.
Working in the business is the day-to-day: handling things, answering questions, following up, checking what’s happening, making decisions, putting out fires.
Working on the business is having the space to think: Where are we going? What needs to change? What should we focus on next? How do we make things work better?
The problem is, when you’re doing too much of the first, the second keeps getting pushed aside.
And sometimes, what you actually need isn’t to work harder.
You need someone who can take ownership of some of the moving parts and give you that space back.
