I’m really curious about how far my illustrations can travel.
It actually started with a Procreate brush set.
I realized I couldn’t find a Korean bunsik brush set filled with the kind of little characters I wanted to use.
So I thought, why not? I’ll make it.
And I did.
Then, somehow, I found a company in Korea that could turn my illustrations into physical objects. The timing was almost too perfect—I had been wanting to make a little gift for my sister using my own drawings, and since she lives in Korea, even the delivery was free.
So I decided to experiment.
I took characters that had begun as my Procreate brushes, turned them into finished illustration files, and sent two designs off as my very first test.
And then I saw them.
My LALATOWN citizens. Sitting on top of cup noodles. As little acrylic ramen toppers.
I may have screamed. 😂
Suddenly I could think of about twenty other LALATOWN citizens who deserved to be up there.
I was nervous at first, so I only ordered two designs. The size worked nicely for a regular cup noodle, although my sister immediately announced that she wanted a bigger one.
Fair enough. We learned something.
Now Group 2 and Group 3 are already on their way.
And I’m ridiculously happy about it.
Because somewhere along this little experiment, I realized something:
They can come out into the world.
An illustration doesn’t necessarily have to stay an illustration. There are so many places it can travel, so many forms it can take, and I’m only beginning to find out where my LALATOWN citizens might end up next.
In the next post, I’ll show you a little more about where they’ve started living.
