I was the web designer that developers truly enjoyed working with since 2006.
Back when “web designer” meant someone who could sketch a layout, fight over spacing, push to GitHub, and write CSS that made front-end developers send heart emojis in Slack. Yes, I was doing all of that. Clean markup, sensible component logic, zero “but can we just make it float a little?” nonsense.
Then the profession had an identity crisis. WordPress developers, no-code evangelists, UI designers with no UX, and UX designers with no research. Everyone working in web design was forced by trends to choose their niche.
I briefly considered going full front-end dev. Turns out there was a hot trend for women in engineering at the time (lol, that aged well).
However, never one to take the obvious route, I selected UX research instead. The field that, paradoxically, everyone insists is mission-critical and almost no one actually hires for. Because yes, user experience determines whether your product lives or dies. But only a mature team figures that out before they've already shipped the wrong thing three times.
So I stopped waiting for teams to get mature and started building my own products.
Now I help solo founders, indie hackers, and vibe-coders build things that aren't just functional but genuinely easy and satisfying to use. Because shipping fast is great. Shipping something people actually want to come back to is better.
And if any of this sounds familiar, stick around. I write about building products people actually want to use.
