We gave users a super simple task on our paper prototype:

The trick was, we took out the top menu, search bar, and footer links.
It was painful to watch. People spent over three minutes clicking around in circles and getting totally stuck.

โ Menus are like maps: Without standard spots to look at, people lose their way and tap random places out of pure frustration.
โ Too much reading: When everything is hidden, users have to read every single line like a book just to find what they want.
โ Instant goodbye: If someone takes three minutes to find a simple page in a test, a real visitor on your live site will just close the tab and leave.
Basic design rules are there for a good reason. Don't throw them out just to be different.
Makes you wonder how many live sites are quietly losing visitors right now just because someone wanted to reinvent the menu bar.

the "menus are like maps" line is a great way to put it. removing nav just to test discoverability is such an underrated research method, most teams are too scared to break the site even for five minutes.

Day 3 of working on my project for the Lovable Challenge.
And somehow, almost one full day of those three went into the intro you see when the page first opens.
Not because it was necessary โ mostly because Iโve wanted to try something like this for a long time.
Web design and development are far from my main field, so I kept putting this idea off. This challenge finally gave me a reason to test it properly โ and seeing it actually work is ridiculously satisfying.
The video was converted into an image sequence and tied directly to scrolling on desktop and swiping on mobile, so the animation is controlled by the user as they move through the page.
Right now the project is already at Build 4.2.3.
The backend is working properly, the main mechanics are in place, but visuallyโฆ thereโs still a lot to redo. The current plan is to rebuild almost the entire visual layer before the final version.
I also found out today that Lovable reduced the number of prize spots quite significantly โ apparently, there will only be 3 finalists.
That definitely makes the odds a little more painful ๐
But either way, Iโm already getting a new portfolio case out of this project, and Iโm finally experimenting with things Iโve wanted to build for a long time.
