I'm incredibly humbled by what I was able to build using the Base44 mobile app alone.

This week, I am away from my workstation, but the theme and direction of the challenge inspired me to take on a project anyway.

I decided to redesign the website for my favorite local barbershop, KAYZPLACE, after noticing several usability gaps the last time I visited it.

I'll admit, I was skeptical about whether I could complete an entire website using only my phone. But Base44 completely changed my perspective. Having used several website-building platforms in the past, I can confidently say this is one of the most optimized experiences I've had for mobile-first development.

The seamless performance across mobile, tablet, and desktop without compromising functionality genuinely impressed me. Using only my phone, I built a completely redesigned version of the KAYZPLACE website featuring:

• Online service booking

• KAYGENT, a custom AI assistant that answers FAQs, helps customers choose the right barber and service, explains pricing, assists with reservations, and provides personalized aftercare recommendations between visits

• An admin dashboard for managing bookings, tracking customer data, and sending email notifications

These capabilities were either missing  on the original website. The new experience makes booking appointments significantly easier while giving the business better tools to organize appointments and customer information.

The most exciting part is that every aspect of this project was created entirely within the Base44 mobile app, without ever opening my computer.

The final product is fully responsive and optimized for mobile devices, tablets, and desktop screens alike. I shared the finished website with the shop owner today, and his reaction made all the effort worthwhile. Seeing how excited he was about the transformation reminded me why I love building products that solve real problems.

For the Base44 Give It A Glow Challenge, I wanted to explore what happens when a local café experience is designed as an interconnected digital ecosystem rather than just a restaurant website.

Dunes Cafe combines customer ordering, event booking, AI-assisted support, and business analytics into a single experience built entirely in Base44.

The customer-facing platform includes menu browsing, food ordering, table reservations, event enquiries, location services, and an AI assistant capable of handling common questions and guiding visitors through the ordering process.

Behind the scenes, every booking and order feeds directly into an owner dashboard designed for day-to-day operations. The dashboard provides booking calendars, order logs, AI-generated customer feedback summaries, and weekly business metrics that help transform activity into actionable insights.

The WhatsApp workflow includes:

• Pre-filled greeting messages to reduce friction and start conversations instantly. • Automated routing based on customer intent such as Food Orders, Live Events, Party Bookings, or General Enquiries. • Queue management using first-come-first-served logic for event and booking requests. • Context-aware responses that reduce repetitive owner interactions for common questions. • Automatic capture of customer requests and booking information into the operational database.

The automation layer ensures that customer interactions do not disappear into chat history. Every enquiry, order, and booking becomes structured operational data that feeds directly into the owner dashboard.

This creates a continuous information loop:

Customer Message → Intent Detection → Automated Routing → Order or Booking Creation → Owner Dashboard Analytics

Rather than functioning purely as customer support, WhatsApp becomes a transaction channel, a booking assistant, and a data collection layer for business intelligence.

For many small businesses, conversational commerce is already happening informally through messaging applications. Dunes Cafe explores what happens when those conversations become structured workflows powered by AI and automation.
